SMA QUILTERS PRESENT
“QUILTS FOR A CAUSE”
TO BENEFIT AMIGOS DE ANIMALES
BORDELLO GALLERY, Organos 19, Centro
CLOSING EVENT: Sunday, December 10 @ 2 – 4 pm
The SMA Quilters will be back at the Bordello Gallery for their fourth show and sale December 1 – 10.
The show’s tradition started in 2008, shortly after a congenial group of quilters came together in San Miguel from the U.S., Canada and Mexico to share their love of stitching. The quilt show and sale has been held every three years and has always been a favorite of the local art scene. Today, the group includes fifteen ladies who regularly meet and share ideas, techniques and inspiration with each other. Over the past ten years, the group has contributed quilts to many of San Miguel’s charitable organizations to use in their fundraising efforts, including Ojalá Niños, SPA, Biblioteca, ALMA, Jovenes Adelante, CASA, Mujeres en Cambio, the Bomberos, Hospital General’s newborns, the Lavender Project, Hospice and Patronato por Niños.
This year’s show and sale will benefit Amigos de Animales, an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to help curb the overpopulation of companion animals in San Miguel de Allende and to help eliminate the fear, pain, suffering and misery of homeless animals through sterilization clinics and educational programs. The feature piece of the show will be the whimsical cats and dogs wallhanging made of sixteen blocks sewn by twelve of the quilters. It will be sold via a silent auction during the ten-day show with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity.
Also available for sale will be over 150 other items, from quilted neckpieces to pillows to small art quilts to a king size bed quilt to a twin-sized mesquite headboard w/quilted inset of the Virgen de Guadalupe made by the various members of the quilt group. A portion of all sales also benefit the charity.
