    3 Part Online Webinar

    The Mexican Revolution of 1910 meant profound political, economic, and social changes in the country, triggering a fervent process of artistic innovation in the search for a new national cultural identity. Though this process occurred in all the arts, it undoubtedly reached its greatest expressions in the broad mural painting movement led by many important and talented artists, among them the three great masters, Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros and José Clemente Orozco.
    Discover the rich history of Mexican muralism through analysis of several major works created in the first stage of this extraordinary artistic movement.

    The 3-part webinar will cover the following:
    Part 1 (July 7):
    Mexico Under the Volcano
    The Porfiriato and the causes of the Revolution of 1910. The winds of change in the arts. Dr. Atl, forerunner of muralism.

    Part 2 (July 14):
    The Early Beginnings of Muralism.
    José Vasconcelos and his mural painting program. The first works in the National Preparatory School by Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros.

    Part 3 (July 21):
    Consolidation of the Mural Painting Movement.
    The major works of the first period (1920 – 1940). The murals of the Ministry of Education and the National Palace in Mexico City.

    Presented by Alberto Lenz, former Director of Bellas Artes in San Miguel de Allende, and renowned painter and sculptor. Alberto Lenz has been a professor of art and architecture at major universities in Mexico, including UNAM, the Universidad Iberoamericana and El Colegio de México.
